Mahnaz Pasikhani, born in Bandar Anzali, holds a BA in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran (1987-1992) and Master of Arts in Imaging from the Faculty of Arts, Sooreh University (2016-2018). I was born in the small, seaside town of Port Anzali. My childhood and youth passed in that city. In a old house with a big yard and a tall Magnolia tree. My father didn’t like to cut oranges from the tree. He said it was more beautiful. I think I was introduced to the concept of beauty from those years. Like all kids who are influenced bu kids older than themselves, I also painted under the influence of my older sister. And I was just painting at home at school during exams instead of classmates… . I stayed in the port of Anzali until I was 19 years old and after coming to Tehran I went to Tehran University to study painting. I held my first solo exhibition in my hometown and the second one in Tehran at Seyhoun Gallery. I have also had experiences in sculpture and mural painting. Sometimes I needed these experiences to Get away from painting. It is very easy for me to do things other than paintings. It is as if I am not too strict about them and how to do them, and allow the fluid flow of my mind to interfere. But to me painting is like meditation. Invitation to think in stillness and silence. I feel that by radically changing the arts and combining them all together to bring the artist closer to the sprit of the time, all my experience in the visual arts have helped me a lot. In a world where having an “Idea” comes first, how it is not so much the implementation of an idea as it is, but what matter is the success of the idea.
